Giza: The Magic of the Pyramids of Egypt

Egypt

Traveling to Giza, Egypt, was far more than fulfilling a dream—it was a truly transformative experience. I had always imagined what it would be like to stand before the Pyramids of Giza and the Great Sphinx, but experiencing it in person exceeded all expectations.

First Impressions of the Pyramids of Giza

The first encounter with the pyramids was breathtaking. Seeing them at sunrise, when the first rays illuminate the desert, or at sunset, when the sun dips behind them, is a spectacle I will never forget. It’s impossible not to feel the grandeur of history as you gaze upon these wonders, which are part of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.

Accommodation with a View of the Pyramids

I chose to stay at the Giza Pyramids View Guest House, a boutique hotel with an unbeatable location and a terrace directly overlooking the pyramids. It was the best decision of my trip. My room was spacious, comfortable, and had an immaculate bathroom. The most impressive feature was the terrace: having breakfast every morning in front of the pyramids was an unforgettable luxury.

Many accommodations in Giza offer similar views, but this hotel stood out not only for its location but also for its warmth and hospitality. Having the opportunity to observe history from your window is a memory worth every moment.

Egyptian Hospitality

Beyond the archaeology, what made my experience in Giza perfect was the hospitality. From the moment I arrived—even in the middle of the night—I was greeted with a smile and personalized attention.

People like Ahmed and Saif took care of organizing my activities and ensured I felt at home. Thanks to them, I was able to enjoy unique excursions and authentic details, like sharing a traditional Egyptian coffee (which they jokingly call the “Egyptian Starbucks”).

Must-Do Activities in Giza

During my stay, I took part in activities that I highly recommend to any traveler:

  • Tour of the Pyramids of Giza and the Great Sphinx with a local guide (prices from 20–30 USD per person).

  • Camel ride around the pyramids (10–15 USD depending on duration).

  • Quad bike excursion across the desert with stunning panoramic views (from 25 USD per hour).

  • Boat ride on the Nile, perfect for relaxing after a day full of history (approximately 15–20 USD).

All these experiences were organized by my accommodation, allowing me to enjoy them without any worries.

Transportation in Giza and Cairo

Getting around Giza and Cairo is simple if you know your options:

  • Taxi or Uber: From Cairo International Airport to Giza, prices range from 10–15 USD.

  • Cairo Metro: Line 2 (Red) connects to stations near Giza, costing less than 0.50 USD per trip.

  • Local buses and minibuses: Very inexpensive (less than 1 USD), though less comfortable for tourists.

  • Private transfer: Some hotels offer airport pickup for 15–20 USD.

In my case, I used Uber for main trips and the metro to reach downtown Cairo, a practical and very affordable option.

International Flight Costs

Flights to Egypt vary depending on the season:

  • From Europe, round-trip tickets can be found for 300–500 USD.

  • From Latin America, prices usually range from 800–1,200 USD, with layovers on airlines such as Turkish Airlines, EgyptAir, Air France, or Lufthansa.

I recommend arriving at Cairo International Airport (CAI) and transferring directly to Giza, about 45 minutes by car.

Food in Giza: Authentic Flavors of Egypt

Another aspect that made my trip unforgettable was Egyptian cuisine. Every meal was an adventure of intense flavors and aromatic spices. I tried traditional dishes such as:

  • Koshari, a delicious mix of rice, pasta, lentils, chickpeas, and tomato sauce with touches of garlic and vinegar.

  • Egyptian Shawarma, served in freshly baked pita bread with tender, spiced meat.

  • Molokhia, a traditional green soup served with rice and bread.

  • And, of course, sweets like baklava and kunafa, perfect for ending the day.

At the Giza Pyramids View Guest House, breakfast was always varied and had a homemade touch: freshly baked breads, fresh fruits, eggs made to order, and coffee with unbeatable views of the pyramids. Eating with that view is something that is hard to compare.

Why I Recommend Visiting Giza

Visiting the Pyramids of Egypt in Giza is not just about seeing a historic destination; it’s about living a complete experience:

  • History and archaeology at their finest.

  • Local culture and unique hospitality.

  • Desert adventures and moments of authentic connection.

  • Cuisine full of flavors that captivate.

  • Accessible and varied transportation options for all budgets.

If you are planning a trip to Egypt, I recommend staying at a hotel with a direct view of the pyramids, like the Giza Pyramids View Guest House. Seeing them from your window at sunrise or illuminated at night is an experience you will never forget.

I would return to Giza without a second thought.
