If you ever travel to San Juan del Sur, Rivas, Nicaragua, Hotel El Jardín might just be the best place to stay, offering a perfect escape from the city's hustle and bustle. Perched on a small mountain, it provides breathtaking views of the bay and a fresh, clean air that genuinely feels revitalizing.
Amenities and Accommodation at Hotel El Jardín
We stayed in the Junior Suite, which was ideal for a comfortable stay. It’s located just past the dining area and features two rooms, a shared bathroom, and a private, upper-level balcony.
While the rooms have a slightly rustic charm, the mattresses are more than sufficient to guarantee a good night's sleep. A major plus is the excellent internet connectivity, which is great if you need to work while traveling.
Quality Cuisine
The continental breakfasts are incredible, standing out with a delicious, distinct European flavor. The food, in general, is high-quality and European in style. We highly recommend trying the Boeuf Bourguignon and sampling their excellent selection of French wine.
Service and Attention
The service is meticulous, and the cleanliness is unbeatable. We even used the laundry service, and our clothes were washed and dried in a matter of hours for an additional fee.
Access and Practical Tips
Access: It’s highly recommended to have a 4x4 vehicle to reach the hotel, as small sedan-type cars will find the mountain road access quite difficult.
Repellent: You might want to bring some insect repellent, as you are on the mountain.
Atmosphere: Despite having changed management, the hotel maintains a unique touch that makes you feel incredibly relaxed.
Connections and Exploration
The hotel facilitates connections with local businesses that organize trips to other nearby beaches like Maderas and Selinas. In our case, we were able to go see the sunrise and the sea turtle nesting (desovada) at Playa La Flor.
San Juan del Sur appears to be a popular destination among foreigners, as we encountered very few locals in the immediate area. Many visitors also travel overland from Costa Rica, often coming from the Liberia Airport.

Without a doubt, Hotel El Jardín is a place to return to whenever we want to leave the noise of the city behind. We hope to visit again soon!
